JAMMU, 4 Feb: The significant drop in Hajj applications in J&K and across India has been witnessed this year said Dr Shujaat Ahmad Qureshi, Executive Officer, J&K Hajj Committee.
He added that since the Hajj pilgrimage of 2024 was completed, the registration process for the new Hajj commenced on 15 April 2024 and we received applications around 4,150 applications
among which several have withdrawn and we were left with 3,622 applications who will go to Hajj today.
Dr Shujaat Ahmad Qureshi said this is not only the picture of J&K but pan India the graph of Hajj has declined.
Approximately 3 to 3.5 lakh applications were received across the country in previous years but now 1.5 lakh have been collected.
However, J&K response is less and the reasons espousing this fact are – people are enthralled towards Umrah pilgrimage.
A total of 20-30 thousand pilgrims go for Umrah every year in J&K and Hajj cost has increased besides weather conditions do not suite the people.
Dr Shujaat Ahmad Qureshi further apprised that on 29 April 2025 flight from J&K will depart for Hajj pilgrimage.
