Explosives, ammunition seized in Tral crackdown
Srinagar: In a coordinated crackdown on terrorism in South Kashmir, the State Investigation Agency (SIA) carried out multiple raids in Bijbehara as part of the probe into the killing of a migrant labourer, while Awantipora Police, along with security forces, arrested two terrorist associates in Tral, seizing explosives and arms.
According to officials, the SIA Kashmir conducted search operations at the premises of two suspects in Bijbehara, Anantnag, on Wednesday.
The searches are linked to the ongoing investigation into the killing of Raja Sah, a migrant labourer, who was gunned down on April 17, 2024, in the area.
A statement from the agency said the raids were aimed at unearthing vital evidence to expose the full conspiracy behind the targeted killing and identify other individuals involved.
“The searches yielded significant evidence expected to strengthen the investigation. These efforts will help bring the perpetrators of this terrorist act to justice and dismantle the terror module involved,” the statement added.
In a separate operation, the Police in Awantipora, in a joint effort with the Army’s 42 Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF’s 180 Battalion, arrested two terrorist associates during a checkpoint operation at Wagad crossing, Tral.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Umer Mohi-ud-Din Bhat, resident of Nader Tral, and Shakeel Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Kuchmulla Tral. A police spokesperson confirmed that two hand grenades, 59 live AK-47 rounds, one AK-47 magazine, and other incriminating material were recovered during the search.
Both accused were allegedly involved in providing logistical support and transporting arms and ammunition for active terrorists affiliated with the banned outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad in Tral and Awantipora areas.
A case under FIR No. 86/2025 has been registered at Police Station Tral, and further investigation is underway.
Security forces have intensified anti-terror operations across Jammu and Kashmir in recent months in an effort to dismantle terror networks and curb targeted attacks, especially against migrant workers.
