SRINAGAR, May 18: Residents of Shigan Mohalla in Batamaloo on Monday staged a protest against the acute shortage of drinking water in the area, alleging that they have been facing severe difficulties for the past several months.
The protesters said the locality has been witnessing an irregular water supply since February, forcing many households to depend on tubewell water for daily use. Residents expressed concern over possible health risks, saying the lack of clean drinking water has badly affected their routine life.
Raising slogans during the protest, the residents appealed to the administration and the Jal Shakti Department to immediately restore regular water supply to the area.
“We are not asking for jobs or financial help, we only want access to safe drinking water,” several protesters said during the demonstration.
The residents also alleged that despite repeated complaints and appeals to the concerned authorities, no concrete action has been taken so far to address the issue.
They warned that if the problem continues, they will be forced to intensify their protest in the coming days.
