Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered 614 FIRs under the NDPS Act, arrested 646 persons and apprehended 435 drug peddlers during the ongoing 100-day “Nasha Mukt JK Abhiyan”, as the administration intensified its crackdown on narcotics networks across the Union Territory.

Official figures revealed that enforcement agencies have seized 3.8 kg of heroin, 32.92 kg of charas and 222.31 kg of ganja so far, while 160 drug hotspots have been identified during the campaign.

As part of deterrent action, authorities sealed or demolished 37 houses linked to drug peddlers, attached immovable properties worth nearly Rs 25.97 crore and demolished additional properties valued at Rs 3.70 crore. Movable assets worth Rs 1.67 crore were also seized.

The administration said intelligence and preventive measures had been strengthened, with 2,807 suspected peddlers identified, 107 suspects examined and 11 PIT-NDPS detentions carried out under preventive detention laws.

Authorities also acted against the misuse of transport and pharmaceutical channels linked to narcotics activities by cancelling 252 driving licences and 111 vehicle registrations. In addition, 104 drug store licences were suspended and two cancelled.

The campaign has simultaneously focused on awareness and rehabilitation initiatives. According to official data, 2,16,123 awareness programmes involving more than one crore participants have been conducted across Jammu and Kashmir, including padyatras, seminars, rallies, sports events and community outreach activities.

The Health Department’s Addiction Treatment Facilities treated 44,602 patients during the campaign period, including 44,263 OPD cases and 339 admissions, while 148 patients were successfully treated and discharged.

Social Welfare Department-run de-addiction and rehabilitation centres received 441 patients and conducted counselling sessions for 742 individuals. Police-run counselling and rehabilitation centres registered 451 patients, counselled 786 individuals and reported 138 successful recoveries.

Officials said surveillance measures had also been expanded, with inspections carried out at 3,067 chemist shops, installation of 2,815 CCTV cameras at vulnerable locations and checks conducted at 977 schools and hospitals.

The administration reiterated its commitment to achieving a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir through sustained enforcement, rehabilitation support, youth engagement and public participation under the “Nasha Mukt JK Abhiyan”.
