Jammu: PoJK (Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir) refugees staged a protest in Jammu, demanding urgent resolution of their long-standing issues. Led by Captain Yudhveer Singh, Chairperson of the PoJK D.P. Front, the demonstrators raised their concerns regarding several unresolved matters, urging both the central and state governments to act swiftly.
The protesters voiced their frustrations over the unfulfilled promises made to them, including the release of ₹5.5 lakh per family, which had been committed by the central government but remains unpaid. They also expressed concern about the processing delays of numerous refugee files in government offices, urging that these be expedited and sent to Delhi for further action.
The protestors also called for the full implementation of the recommendations made by the Joint Parliamentary Committee in 2009, which included financial assistance and provisions for refugees, but had not been entirely acted upon. The refugees were also demanding the release of the remaining ₹24 lakh, as the committee had initially approved ₹30 lakh per family, but only ₹5.5 lakh has been disbursed so far.
Further, the refugees are seeking land allotments for those without property and housing for those without homes, including the provision of five-marla plots. They also raised the issue of reservations, calling for the same rights as other communities such as the Pahari and Backward Classes, especially in government jobs, educational admissions, and legislative seats, as their 24 assembly seats are currently not being filled.
The protesters emphasized the urgency of these demands and vowed to continue their fight until they receive the justice they have been waiting for. They expressed frustration with the government’s delayed response and warned that if their concerns are not addressed soon, they will take stronger measures in the future.
