Budgam, May 9: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday criticised the ruling government while addressing a workers’ convention in Budgam, accusing it of failing to fulfil promises made to the people.
Mehbooba Mufti thanked the people of Budgam for supporting what she described as a young and bold voice in the Assembly and alleged that the National Conference (NC) government was repeatedly blocking PDP’s pro-people bills.
She reiterated the demand for establishment of a National Law University (NLU) in Budgam, claiming that the promise made during the election campaign had been ignored after the polls.
The PDP chief also expressed concern over attempts to weaken the role of Urdu in recruitment examinations, saying the language is deeply connected with the cultural and social heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.
Highlighting unemployment and rising frustration among youth, she said the delay in issuing NOCs to institutions such as Siraj-ul-Uloom was putting the future of thousands of students at risk.
On the issue of drug abuse, Mehbooba called for strict action against drug peddlers while ensuring that innocent families are not harassed. She also raised the issue of prisoners lodged outside Jammu and Kashmir without trial and said efforts were being made to bring them closer to their homes.
She further accused the government of corruption and political favouritism in recruitment, alleging that deserving youth were being denied opportunities and that promises regarding reservation and open merit had not been fulfilled.
