SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti alleged that several party leaders and workers were placed under house arrest across the Kashmir Valley to prevent them from participating in protests against the outsourcing of government jobs.
In a post on X, Mehbooba accused the National Conference (NC)-led government of using the police to suppress peaceful protests while claiming it has no control over the force when questions of accountability arise.
She said the government’s “double standards” were evident as PDP workers were allegedly stopped from joining demonstrations over outsourcing, reservation rationalisation and alleged backdoor recruitment.
Earlier, the PDP claimed its Baramulla district president, Mohammad Rafique Rather, was placed under house arrest ahead of the party’s district-level protest.
The party held protests across Jammu and Kashmir against the outsourcing policy and alleged irregularities in government recruitment.
There was no immediate response from the administration or police to the allegations.
The issue has triggered a political row, with the PDP accusing the NC government of promoting outsourcing and irregular appointments, while the NC maintains that the outsourcing mechanism was introduced during the PDP-BJP coalition government between 2015 and 2018.
