Jammu: Security forces on Thursday apprehended a suspected Pakistani intruder along the International Border in Jammu, while an anti-terror operation was launched in the forest areas of Budgam following inputs about the movement of suspected terrorists.

The suspected intruder was held in the Kanachak sector of Jammu district. Identified as Nazir Sadhir, a resident of Sialkot district in Pakistan, he is being questioned, officials said.

In Budgam, a joint team of the Army and police launched a cordon-and-search operation in the upper reaches of the forest area following information about the movement of a suspected group of terrorists from Pakherpora in Pulwama towards Yousmarg.

Officials said gunshots were heard during the searches, following which the cordon was tightened. The operation was underway in the densely forested area when last reports came in. Communication in the area was also affected as normal cellular phone services do not work there.

Meanwhile, security forces recovered a weapons cache during a search operation in the Khataji Ridge forests of the Mahore area in Reasi district.

Acting on specific inputs from the Army’s local intelligence unit, the forces recovered a pistol, a grenade, 140 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, 19 rounds of PIKA machine-gun ammunition, 25 rounds of pistol ammunition, six cassettes and an AK magazine.

Officials described the recovered material as “war-like stores” and said further investigation had been initiated.

In north Kashmir, police attached two double-storey buildings, six shops and two kanals of land in Dooru village of Sopore after completing legal proceedings under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The properties included the premises of Islamia Model School, which has remained closed since 2022. Police said the properties were identified during an investigation into a case registered under Sections 10 and 13 of the UAPA.

According to officials, scrutiny of official and revenue records established alleged links between the properties and the proscribed Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir.

The Kashmir Divisional Commissioner had notified the properties under Section 8(1) of the UAPA through an order dated August 12, 2026. Subsequently, the District Magistrate, Baramulla, issued the required orders under Sections 8(3) and 8(4) of the Act.

Police, accompanied by an Executive Magistrate, carried out the attachment in accordance with the prescribed legal procedure.

The developments come amid continuing security operations, border surveillance and investigations into suspected militant networks and properties allegedly linked to proscribed organisations across Jammu and Kashmir.
