APRIL 4: A day after Waqf Amendment Bill was passed Rajya Sabha, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MP Asaduddin Owaisi and Congress MP Mohammad Jawed have moved Apex Court to challenge it.
It is learnt that the Waqf Amendment Bill has been passed in both Lower and Upper Houses and is in queue for Presidential approval to become law.
Pertinent to mention, the Waqf Amendment Bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha with 128 members pro to it and 95 standing agianst and in the Lok Sabha with 288 members upholding and 232 against it.
“Muslims are infringed from their rights, it is sheer violation of Right to Equality,” said Asaduddin Owaisi in plea.
He added Waqf Bill brazenly breaches the fundamental rights of Muslims.
Congress MP Mohammad Jawed has said the Waqf Amendment Bill affects religious autonomy and is draconian in nature.
