SEPT 11: Lauding India’s New Criminal Laws, LG Manoj Sinha stated these laws are imperative in reinforcing nation’s policy of zero tolerance against terrorism and help in rooting out terrorism from society.
In his keynote address at J&K Police Public School Bemina, LG Sinha categorically said New Criminal Laws have replaced colonial-era criminal justice rules after nearly 150 years, freeing India’s justice system clutches of colonial rule and stressing upon protecting vulnerable groups.
While highlighting the positives of these laws, LG Sinha said that a significant transformation has been witnessed in criminal justice system with these laws as paradigm wherein the focus has shifted to victims rather than just punishment.
LG Sinha posted on X, “Inaugurated an exhibition on ‘New Criminal Laws’ to raise awareness and educate students, parents and general public. The initiative of EoW, J&K Police will help us to achieve broader objectives of shaping understanding on new laws & ensuring justice to last man in queue.”
LG Sinha emphasized that these new criminal laws are the pillars of justice and aim to propagate impartiality.
“The New Criminal Laws focus on parameters of justice propogating no biasness or prejudice that unfairly influences judgment,” LG Sinha.
The Lieutenant Governor asked the J&K Police to continue sensitizing the people through camps on New Criminal Laws.
Pertinent to mention, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 (BSA) are India’s New Criminal Laws which came to effect on July 1, 2024.
J&K DGP Nalin Prabhat; S.J.M. Gillani, Special DG Coordination; Vidhi Kumar Birdi, IGP Kashmir; Sujit Kumar, IGP Security, J&K; Anshul Garg, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and other key officials along with teachers and students were present.
