JAMMU, AUG 26: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Jammu, has uncovered a suspected cross-border heroin trafficking network with the arrest of three people and the recovery of 5.16 kg of heroin, officials said.
The operation was carried out on the basis of specific intelligence received on August 22. NCB officials intercepted a vehicle in the Panjtirthi area of Jammu and searched it, leading to the seizure of the heroin from two people travelling in the vehicle. Both suspects are residents of Baramulla in north Kashmir.
Following the arrests, investigators received information about another person believed to be the main supplier behind the network. The NCB team traced the suspect to Leh in Ladakh and arrested him on August 24.
According to preliminary findings, the seized heroin is suspected to be part of an organised supply chain operating across the border. Officials said the consignment is believed to have originated in Pakistan and entered India through the Uri sector.
The investigation is now being widened to trace the alleged suppliers across the border, financial transactions, transporters and local associates, besides determining where the drugs were intended to be distributed.
The latest action comes after two separate heroin recoveries by the NCB Jammu earlier this month. The agency had seized 438 grams of heroin on August 12 and another 603 grams on August 13.
