Jammu, July 22: Continuous heavy rainfall forced authorities to suspend traffic on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway from both Jammu and Srinagar on Wednesday as a safety precaution.
Officials said several vulnerable locations in Udhampur and Ramban districts witnessed mudslides and falling rocks after persistent rain, making the highway unsafe for vehicular movement.
Teams from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have been deployed to the affected stretches to remove mud, rocks and other debris from the road.
According to officials, restoration work will continue as weather conditions improve. Traffic will be allowed to resume only after the affected sections are inspected and declared safe.
The administration has urged commuters to avoid travelling on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway until the weather improves and authorities officially reopen the road for traffic.
