JAMMU: Expressing disappointment over the recently presented Jammu and Kashmir budget, MLA Shagun Parihar criticized the government for overlooking crucial developmental issues in the Kishtwar region.
Speaking during the budget discussion in the Legislative Assembly, Parihar accused the government of making promises without delivering on them.
He questioned the implementation of schemes like free bus services for women, pointing out that Kishtwar had only one Jammu-bound bus.
“How can a single bus accommodate all the women who need this facility?” Parihar asked. He further highlighted the ongoing struggles of JKSRTC bus drivers and conductors, who frequently stage protests due to unresolved issues.
Drawing attention to the power supply crisis, Parihar claimed that while regions like Kishtwar, Doda, and Ramban supply electricity to other parts of Jammu and Kashmir, locals face continuous power shortages. He warned that such neglect could lead to public unrest.
Parihar also criticized the lack of focus on promoting tourism in Kishtwar despite the presence of potential attractions like Machail Mata, and revered shrines. “While the government has focused heavily on promoting Kashmir for tourism, Kishtwar’s rich heritage has been ignored,” he lamented.
Highlighting the condition of public transport in remote areas, Parihar described how overcrowded and poorly maintained vehicles have led to frequent accidents. He urged the government to prioritize improving transportation in hilly regions to ensure public safety.
On the education front, Parihar expressed concern over the absence of higher secondary schools, ITIs, and colleges in several parts of Kishtwar. He stressed that areas like Kundwara and Parmaar still lacked essential educational facilities.
Addressing healthcare concerns, Parihar acknowledged the government’s move to provide CT scan machines to district hospitals but stressed the need for sufficient staff to operate these facilities efficiently.
He concluded by criticizing the government for ignoring the struggles of marginalized communities, particularly Dalits, women, and displaced persons.
“The Modi government’s decision to revoke Article 370 has ensured justice for these communities,” Parihar said, praising the central government’s efforts in empowering the underprivileged.
