Jammu, October 9: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has cleared a proposal to increase the salaries of around 32,000 Special Police Officers (SPOs) in Jammu and Kashmir. The proposal has been sent to the Union Finance Ministry for final approval, officials said.
Currently, SPOs receive between Rs 6,000 and Rs 18,000 per month, depending on their years of service. The proposed revision includes higher pay and additional allowances for personnel serving in difficult areas.
The proposal follows recommendations from the J&K administration and Police Department, citing the role and risks faced by SPOs during anti-terror operations and other policing duties.
The final approval is awaited, and an official order is expected shortly.
The development comes ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s proposed visit to Jammu, where he is scheduled to inaugurate the high-security Mahanpur jail in Kathua district.
