SEPT 17: After remaining suspended for 22 days owing to heavy landslide that claimed 34 lives, the pilgrimage to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine resumed on Wednesday.
It is learnt that scores of devotees reverberated “Jai Mata Di” while chanting different mantras and were swept with religious fervour and gaiety.
In view of the favourable weather conditions, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) announced the recommencement of pilgrimage which rejoiced several pilgrims who had been camping in Katra town.
The Shrine Board officials apprised the yatra commenced from both routes at 6 a.m. after remaining suspended for around three weeks.
Pilgrims are advised to carry valid identification and Radio Frequency Identity Card (RFID)-based tracking is also compulsory for transparency and traceability.
The Shrine Board has expressed its gratitude to all devotees for their patience and understanding during the suspension of the yatra.
Pertinent to mention, the pilgrimage was suspended on August 26 owing to natural calamity that resulted in the loss of lives of massive human loss. Post that controversy erupted that it was owing to the negligence of Shrine Board, however, the authorities refuted the rumours.
