Anantnag, June 3: Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Sunil Sharma criticised Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for holding a meeting with National Conference MLAs at Dachigam National Park, describing it as a “picnic” while people continue to face basic civic issues.
Speaking to reporters in Anantnag, Sharma alleged that the Chief Minister was focusing on outings instead of governance. He said residents across Jammu and Kashmir were struggling with problems related to electricity, drinking water, roads and education, while the government was holding meetings at a tourist destination.
Taking a swipe at Abdullah’s earlier political remarks, Sharma said the Chief Minister had spoken about creating a “cloudburst” and a “bombshell” in politics, but nothing significant had emerged from those claims.
Sharma further alleged that Abdullah was repeatedly convening meetings because he feared instability within the ruling setup. He claimed the Chief Minister appeared concerned about the possibility of some legislators distancing themselves from the government, prompting frequent interactions with MLAs.
Questioning the purpose of the Dachigam gathering, Sharma said the government should prioritise addressing public grievances instead of holding meetings at scenic locations.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, along with ministers and National Conference legislators, is currently attending a day-long review and strategy session at Dachigam National Park. The agenda and outcomes of the meeting have not yet been disclosed.
