Indri, Karnal – With profound grief, we announce the passing of Shri Mohinder Singh Kamboj, a stalwart of our community, who left for his heavenly abode at the age of 72. A resident of Indri, Karnal, Shri Kamboj was a renowned author, educationist, and philanthropist who dedicated his life to the betterment of society.
A distinguished academic, Shri Kamboj was a postgraduate degree holder and a batch topper, reflecting his intellectual prowess and dedication to his studies. He leveraged his knowledge and expertise to make a lasting impact on the lives of countless individuals.
Shri Kamboj’s professional career was marked by excellence, starting as an agent with the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) and rising through the ranks to become a Development Officer. During his illustrious tenure of 30 years with LIC, he earned hundreds of achievements, a testament to his hard work and dedication. He was declared the first crorepati by LIC in the Karnal zone, a remarkable feat that showcased his exceptional interest in insurance and his ability to connect with people.
Shri Kamboj was a prolific writer who authored 15 books on insurance, which sold over 1.5 lakh copies, a testament to his expertise and vision. He published a total of 30 books, inspiring countless individuals with his writings. However, his contributions didn’t stop there.
One of his most notable achievements was his relentless pursuit of opening a public library in Indri. Finding the absence of such a facility in the town, Shri Kamboj took it upon himself to approach the government and complete all formalities to establish one. Sadly, the library is yet to be inaugurated, but his efforts will not go in vain.
Shri Kamboj was also a pioneer in education. As early as 1993, he envisioned a “No Bag School” in Indri, which was eventually opened in 1995. Although the school later shifted to traditional schooling due to the unconventional nature of its approach, Shri Kamboj’s vision remains an inspiration for future generations.
As an expert in insurance, mutual funds and finance matters, Shri Kamboj had a keen eye for financial planning. He was a Licenciate of Insurance Institute of India (III). He opened the first institute of training in India under the name NIIM as authorised under the IRDA Act. He opened his own firm, where he not only guided individuals on financial matters but also took it upon himself to train youngsters in finance, imparting his knowledge free of cost. His commitment to financial literacy and education will continue to benefit the community for years to come.
What truly set Shri Kamboj apart was his temperament for social service. A poignant example of this was his unwavering support for his maid, whose husband had gone missing 10 years ago. Upon learning about her plight, Shri Kamboj took it upon himself to pursue her case, filing a civil suit to declare her husband’s civil death. He diligently followed up on the case, got the papers prepared, and even took steps to execute the decree when the authorities failed to act. His selfless service to the less fortunate is a shining example of his compassion and commitment to humanity.
Beyond his professional and philanthropic pursuits, Shri Kamboj was an avid adventurer and traveler. He had visited almost all states in India with his family, immersing himself in the diverse cultures and landscapes of the country. His curiosity and enthusiasm for exploration led him to gather information on all aspects of the areas he visited, from history and geography to cuisine and traditions.
Shri Kamboj’s progressive thinking and support for women’s education were evident in his personal life. His wife, Smt. Kamlesh, was a graduate when they married, but Shri Kamboj persuaded her to pursue further studies. She went on to complete her post-graduation with B.Ed. and had a distinguished career as a principal for over 12-15 years. Her achievements are a testament to Shri Kamboj’s encouragement and support for women’s empowerment.
Shri Kamboj’s family reflects his values and dedication to public service. His eldest son, Amit Kamboj, is associate vice president in Generali Central, making significant contributions to the industry. His daughter, Dr. Kavita Kamboj, holds a doctorate in law and serves as an Additional District and Sessions Judge in Haryana, upholding the law with integrity and dedication. His youngest son, Sh. Ravi Kamboj, is a sales head in mahindra at Kurukshetra, continuing the family’s legacy of professional excellence.
It’s no surprise that Shri Kamboj’s philanthropic nature was rooted in his family values. His father, a Patwari, was remembered by the people of Indri for his compassion and service to the downtrodden. The apple clearly didn’t fall far from the tree, as Shri Kamboj carried forward his father’s legacy of kindness and service.
The people of Indri and beyond will remember Shri Kamboj for his selfless service, his passion for knowledge, and his unwavering commitment to the betterment of society. May his legacy continue to inspire us to work towards creating a better world.
