SRINAGAR: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory for several districts of Jammu Division, forecasting cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers over the next five days, from September 7 to 11.
According to the bulletin issued by IMD, districts including Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban are likely to witness spells of rainfall of varying intensity during the forecast period. The advisory highlighted that September 7 could see heavy rainfall at isolated places in Jammu, Kathua and Udhampur, especially during evening and night hours, which may trigger localized flooding or landslides in hilly terrains.
For Jammu district, the IMD predicted cloudy skies with the possibility of light to moderate showers on September 7 and 8. From September 9 onwards, the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy with only occasional light rainfall at isolated spots. Similar conditions have been forecast for Kathua and Udhampur districts, with the addition that heavy showers may occur in patches on September 7 and 8.
The advisory further mentioned that in Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts, generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely on September 7 and 8. On subsequent days, skies are expected to clear gradually, with partly cloudy conditions dominating between September 9 and 11.
Officials have cautioned residents in landslide-prone and hilly areas to remain alert as waterlogging, road blockades and mudslides cannot be ruled out during spells of heavy rainfall. The advisory also urged travelers on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway and other interior routes to plan their journeys accordingly and follow updates from local authorities.
Meanwhile, farmers have been advised to take necessary precautions to protect standing crops from water stagnation and soil erosion. Tourists and locals engaging in outdoor activities have been asked to stay away from vulnerable riverbanks, streams and unstable slopes until the weather improves.
IMD said its teams are closely monitoring the weather developments, and any significant changes in the forecast will be communicated through further advisories.
