Srinagar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir spokesperson Altaf Thakur has welcomed the Lieutenant Governor’s decision to order a judicial probe into the recent encounter in Ganderbal, describing the move as an important step toward establishing the truth and ensuring accountability.
Speaking to The News Now, Thakur said that following the encounter, several political parties raised questions about the incident, while members of the public also expressed concern and dissatisfaction. He noted that the judicial inquiry ordered by the Lieutenant Governor would help clarify the circumstances surrounding the operation and address the doubts being raised.
According to official reports, security forces stated that a militant was killed during the encounter in Ganderbal. However, the family of the deceased has strongly disputed the claim, alleging that the person killed was their son and not a militant. The incident has sparked protests and demands from political leaders for a transparent and impartial investigation.
Thakur further said that since 2019, the security environment in Jammu and Kashmir has improved significantly and that there is no place for chaos or confusion in the region. He emphasized that the administration remains committed to maintaining peace and stability.
He added that the Lieutenant Governor has set a seven-day timeframe for the inquiry and urged people to wait for the findings. Thakur stressed that if any individual is found guilty of wrongdoing, strict action should be taken in accordance with the law.
