Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday separately reviewed the flood situation across the Union Territory, directing officials to intensify rescue operations, expedite restoration works and ensure relief reaches affected families without delay.
The Lieutenant Governor held a high-level review with senior officials after heavy rains, flash floods and landslides affected several districts.
He directed district administrations, SDRF, NDRF, Police, Army, Border Roads Organisation (BRO), NHAI and line departments to intensify rescue efforts and keep manpower and machinery positioned near vulnerable locations for immediate response.
Sinha said more than 400 damaged roads in the Jammu division had already been restored, while joint rescue operations were continuing in Poonch and Rajouri.
Expressing grief over the death of a couple in the Ramban shooting-stone incident, he directed the district administration to ensure the best medical care for the injured and extend all possible support to the bereaved families.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited Beerwah in Budgam district, where flash floods had washed away a shopping complex and around two dozen shops.
Interacting with affected shopkeepers, Abdullah assured that those running businesses with valid permissions would receive compensation after verification of documents.
He also said the government would examine the possibility of permitting reconstruction after technical assessment by the Roads and Buildings Department to ensure the site was safe.
The Chief Minister also paid tribute to the police officer killed in the Anantnag terror attack, saying such incidents would not weaken the resolve of the people or the security forces. He expressed confidence that those responsible would be brought to justice while refraining from making political remarks on the incident.
