Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday strongly condemned the terrorist attack in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district that claimed the life of Head Constable Ashiq Hussain, who was deployed on Amarnath Yatra security duty.
The policeman was shot dead by a terrorist at Lal Chowk in Anantnag around 12:30 pm.
Condemning the attack, LG Sinha said the “heinous act will not go unpunished” and asserted that the security forces would bring those responsible to justice.
“I strongly condemn this cowardly attack. This heinous act will not go unpunished. J&K Police and our security forces are on the ground and will bring those responsible to justice,” Sinha said in a post on X.
The Lieutenant Governor said he spoke with Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat to review the security situation following the attack. Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, he said the entire nation stands with the family of the martyred policeman.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also condemned the attack, describing it as a cowardly act of terror.
“Deeply saddened by the death in the line of duty of Head Constable Ashiq Hussain of IRP 3rd Battalion J&K Police. HC Hussain made the ultimate sacrifice in a cowardly terror attack in the Anantnag area of South Kashmir,” Abdullah said on X.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the slain policeman’s family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
