Poonch,June 13: A major landslide struck the Jammu–Poonch National Highway near the Madana area of Surankote Tehsil on Saturday, forcing authorities to suspend traffic movement until the affected stretch is cleared.
According to eyewitnesses, a large portion of the hillside collapsed onto the highway after adverse weather conditions, leaving behind huge piles of rocks, mud, and debris. The incident caused significant disruption to vehicular movement on the strategic route that connects Poonch district with other parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Local officials and road maintenance teams rushed to the site soon after the incident and launched clearance operations. Heavy machinery was deployed to remove the debris and restore normal traffic as quickly as possible.
Authorities have urged commuters to avoid unnecessary travel on the highway and to follow official traffic advisories, especially while passing through landslide-prone areas.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported. Restoration work was underway, and officials expressed hope that traffic movement would resume once the road is declared safe for travel.
