Srinagar: The 5th edition of the Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG), initially set for February 22-25 at the ski resort of Gulmarg has been postponed due to insufficient snowfall, officials said.
Over one thousand athletes, coaches & officials were expected to participate in the KIWG.
This year, Kashmir has witnessed three light spells of snow and officials said that new assessment will be conducted once snow conditions improves.
“The 5th edition of the Khelo India Winter Games, initially set for February 22-25, 2025, has been postponed due to insufficient snowfall. A new assessment will be conducted once snow conditions improve, and the revised update will be announced accordingly,” J&K Sports Council said in a statement.
The postponement announcement came on a day the Weather Department in Srinagar predicted wet weather from February 19-20 with higher reaches expected to receive fresh snow.
The Union Territory of Ladakh hosted the first phase of the Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG) 2025 from January 23?27, 2025. The games were held at the NDS Stadium in Leh, the capital of Ladakh. Ladakh topped the medal tally and the Indian Army retained the men’s ice hockey.
