JULY 4: In a major breakthrough, Kishtwar Police has solved a blind murder case within 24 hours, by arresting a husband-wife duo involved in the brutal killing of a man over an alleged illicit relationship.

SSP Kishtwar Sh. Naresh Singh-JKPS, while sharing the details, said that on 02.07.2025, information was received at Police Station Kishtwar that a vehicle (Echo) bearing registration number JK17A/7539 was found parked on the roadside at Drab Sarthal, with a male dead body lying inside. On this information inquest proceedings under Section 194 BNSS vide DD No. 06 dated 02.07.2025 initiated and preliminary enquiry started.

Acting Swiftly into the information Police team led by Dy.SP Headquarters Kishtwar Dr. Ishan Gupta-JKPS, SHO PS Kishtwar Insp. Firdous Ahmed, and other officers rushed the spot. After inspection of the scene and preliminary enquiry, the deceased was identified as Pawan Kumar S/o Tara Chand R/o Lower Bidda, Tehsil Nagseni, District Kishtwar.

During the investigation, the SIT interrogated several suspects, and based on the technical and human intelligence, it was revealed that the deceased was involved in an illicit relationship with one Ujla Devi W/o Sandeep Kumar R/o Changam Sarthal, Kishtwar.

When her husband Sandeep Kumar S/o Suram Chand came to know about the relationship, he conspired with his wife to eliminate the victim. On 01.07.2025, Ujla Devi called the deceased to her residence under the pretext of meeting. When the victim reached her home, both accused caught hold of him and brutally assaulted him until he died. The duo then placed the deceased Namely Pawan Kumar in his own vehicle and left it abandoned on the roadside to mislead the investigation.

In light of the evidence gathered, the inquest proceedings were converted into FIR No. 156/2025 under Sections 103(1), 3(5) of BNS at Police Station Kishtwar. Both accused have been taken into custody, and further investigation is ongoing.

Kishtwar Police assures the public that no one involved in criminal activities will be spared and law will take its due course.
