Srinagar,Jan 29:An 18-year-old Kashmiri boy was brutally attacked by a group of people in Uttarakhand’s Vikas Nagar area on Tuesday evening, sparking concerns over the safety of migrant traders from Jammu and Kashmir.
According to family members, the boy had travelled to Uttarakhand with his family to sell shawls during the winter season. They alleged that the boy was questioned about his identity and place of origin, and that the situation turned violent after it was revealed that the family was Muslim and from Kashmir.
The family claimed that the boy was assaulted with iron rods and punches, resulting in a fractured left arm and serious head injuries. They said blood was seen oozing from his head after the attack. Other family members accompanying him were also allegedly dragged, slapped and assaulted.
The injured boy was initially taken to a local hospital and later referred to Doon Hospital in Dehradun due to the severity of his injuries.
The incident came to light after social and student activist Jasib Shabir highlighted the matter on social media, terming the attack “deeply disturbing” and calling for strict action against those involved.
The Jammu Kashmir Students Association has urged Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to intervene and ensure registration of a strict FIR against the culprits. The incident has raised concerns about the growing trend of communal profiling and mob brutality in the region.
Police has taken action against Sanjay Yadav and another individual involved in the incident by registering the case in the concerned Police Station. The accused Sanjay Yadav has been taken into custody.
