Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government has sanctioned ₹304 lakh for the procurement of eight Toyota Fortuner vehicles for the official use of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The approval, detailed in Government Order No. 04-JK(TR) of 2024, was issued by the Transport Department and is aimed at modernizing the Chief Minister’s transport fleet.
The vehicles, which include four units of the 4X2 AT model and four of the 4X4 AT model, will cost ₹34 lakh and ₹42 lakh each, respectively. These vehicles are intended to enhance the Chief Minister’s mobility both within the Union Territory and during visits to the national capital, New Delhi.
The funds, allocated under the Capex Budget 2024-25, have been placed at the disposal of the Director, State Motor Garages (SMG), J&K. The government has directed the SMG to ensure that all procurement is conducted transparently, adhering to codal formalities and the e-tendering process as per General Financial Rules (GFR) 2017.
The order stipulates that no new driver posts will be created, and the funds must be used solely for the intended purpose. The SMG has also been tasked with submitting Utilization Certificates (UCs) before the end of the financial year on March 31, 2025.
