Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir is staring at a major water crisis this year, a situation that has been developing over the past few years. Taking to social media, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah highlighted the urgency of the issue, stressing that water conservation cannot be solely a government responsibility but requires collective efforts from all residents.
Abdullah emphasized the need for a proactive approach by the government, particularly the Jal Shakti (PHE) Department, in managing and conserving water resources.
He assured that he would be reviewing the department’s measures to tackle the crisis and engaging with the people of J&K over the coming months to discuss solutions.

“This is not a recent phenomenon, it has been building up for years. While the government must do its part, we, the residents of J&K, must also change our approach and stop taking water for granted,” Abdullah stated in his tweet.
The looming crisis calls for immediate intervention, including better water management policies, stricter conservation efforts, and increased public awareness. Experts have also warned of declining water levels in rivers and reservoirs, urging both the administration and citizens to take responsible measures before the situation worsens.
