Jammu, May 18: Jammu and Kashmir is bracing for the first significant heatwave of the season, with temperatures expected to rise sharply across both the Kashmir Valley and Jammu region over the next few days, officials said on Monday.
Meteorological officials said the prevailing weather system is likely to keep conditions hot, dry, and sunny across most parts of the Union Territory. Srinagar may record daytime temperatures close to 32 degrees Celsius, which is considerably above the seasonal average for May. Several districts in north and south Kashmir, along with parts of Jammu, are also expected to witness unusually high temperatures.
The intense sunshine and dry weather are likely to make afternoon hours particularly uncomfortable, especially for commuters, outdoor labourers, and people travelling during peak daytime hours.
Health experts have advised residents to remain hydrated, reduce unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight, and take precautionary measures to avoid heat-related illnesses such as dehydration and exhaustion.
Officials said the hot weather conditions are expected to continue for the next few days, with no major rainfall activity predicted across the region during this period.
