Budgam,May 25: Iltija Mufti on Sunday condemned the alleged rape and murder of a minor girl in Budgam, saying the incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of young girls in the region.
Speaking to reporters during her visit to Galwanpora village, the PDP leader said the victim belonged to the family of a police officer and questioned how ordinary citizens could feel secure if such crimes continue to occur.
Mufti said the incident has left residents shocked and fearful, adding that people are demanding swift justice and a transparent investigation. She also referred to reports that CCTV cameras near the location where the body was found had been damaged, urging authorities to thoroughly investigate every angle of the case.
The 12-year-old girl was found dead on Sunday, hours after she went missing from Galwanpora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.
Meanwhile, Omar Abdullah described the incident as “deeply disturbing” and assured full support to investigating agencies to ensure strict punishment for those found guilty.
