Jammu,June 29: Heavy rainfall triggered a massive mudslide on the Mughal Road on Sunday, disrupting traffic and leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded on the vital route connecting Rajouri and Poonch with the Kashmir Valley, officials said.
According to officials, continuous rain caused a mudslide near Pir Ki Gali, blocking more than half a kilometre of the road. The landslide brought traffic to a complete standstill, with passenger vehicles as well as goods carriers stuck on both sides of the affected stretch.
Road clearance teams, along with heavy machinery, were immediately deployed to remove the debris and restore traffic movement. However, restoration work was continuing at the time of reporting.
Authorities have urged commuters to avoid unnecessary travel on the Mughal Road until the route is cleared and weather conditions improve.
The Mughal Road is an important alternative highway linking the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in the Jammu region with Shopian district in the Kashmir Valley and serves as a key road for residents of the twin border districts.
