Group of terrorists feared dead across LoC in Rajouri

JAMMU: Around 4-5 Pakistani terrorists were killed in a landmine explosion while attempting to infiltrate along the Line of Control (LoC) in rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir , officials said.

Sources indicate that the blast occurred during the intervening night of February 4 and February 5 on the Pakistani side of the Line of Control (LoC).

“One of them allegedly stepped on a landmine, triggering a huge explosion that killed all terrorists,” sources said.

Sources further added, “The terrorists were carrying an IED with them, which also exploded.

Security forces had previously noticed suspicious movements in the area. Initial assessments suggest that 4-5 terrorists, attempting to infiltrate, accidentally triggered the landmine, resulting in their deaths. The Army is currently evaluating the situation further.

This incident coincides with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent statement expressing a desire to resolve issues, including Kashmir, with India through dialogue. However, this gesture is juxtaposed with reports of a conference held by commanders of terrorist outfits like Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), revealing a contradictory stance.

India has consistently maintained that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh “was, is and shall forever” remain an integral part of the country, stressing that peaceful relations with Pakistan are contingent on an environment free from terror and violence.

Diplomatic and trade relations between India and Pakistan have been strained since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, which revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status.

In recent months, there has been an uptick in terror activities across various districts in the Jammu region, resulting in 44 fatalities, including 18 security personnel.
