Jammu, May 22: A 21-year-old woman allegedly attempted suicide by setting herself on fire on the River Tawi bridge in Jammu city on Thursday afternoon. According to preliminary police investigations, personal stress linked to a relationship issue may have driven her to take the extreme step.
Officials said police teams quickly reached the spot after receiving reports that the woman had poured petrol on herself and ignited it in public.
She suffered severe burn injuries, estimated to be between 70 and 80 percent, and was immediately shifted to Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu, for treatment.
Police have registered a case and started further investigation into the incident.
