JAMMU, May 5: Three Indian nationals were injured after a suspected Iranian drone strike triggered a fire at a major oil facility in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, on Monday, raising fresh concerns over regional security.
According to officials, emergency and civil defence teams rushed to the site and managed to contain the blaze. The injured Indians were shifted to a nearby hospital, and their condition is stated to be stable. The Indian Embassy in the UAE said it is in constant touch with local authorities to ensure proper medical care and assistance to the affected nationals.
The incident comes weeks after a Pakistan-mediated ceasefire between the United States and Iran took effect on April 8, and is being seen as a rare breach of security in the UAE. Authorities had earlier issued precautionary alerts in parts of the country, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi, warning residents about potential missile threats and advising them to remain indoors and follow safety instructions.
In a related development, UAE defence forces reportedly intercepted multiple missiles over its waters, preventing further damage. One projectile is said to have fallen into the sea without causing casualties.
Reacting strongly, India termed the attack “unacceptable” and called for an immediate halt to hostilities, especially those targeting civilian infrastructure and non-combatants. New Delhi reiterated that dialogue and diplomacy remain the most effective path to restoring peace and stability in West Asia.
India also stressed the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation and uninterrupted commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy corridor, in accordance with international law.
Reaffirming its position, India expressed readiness to support all efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and achieving a peaceful resolution in the region.
