Jammu: A complex dispute involving allegations of forced religious conversion and assault has come to light in Baispur Parlah, Sector Arnia, Jammu, prompting police intervention and community attention.
According to official reports, on 24 December 2025, an altercation occurred between Babi Jacob daughter of Ouscph Chaco, resident of Kerala, and Gaurav Singh son of Ajit Singh, resident of Baispur Parlah. The dispute was reportedly resolved temporarily on-site by police after mutual interaction, preventing escalation at that time.
However, on the intervening night of 30–31 December 2025, Babi Jacob lodged a formal complaint at Police Station Arnia alleging that Gaurav Singh had attempted to assault and harass her. Based on her complaint, FIR No. 75/2025 was registered under sections 126(2), 115(2), 333, 351(2), and 352 IPC, and investigation is currently ongoing.
In a related development, Gaurav Singh has alleged that the complainant side had allegedly pressured him for religious conversion, with a monetary inducement of ₹5 lakh reportedly offered for the purpose. According to him, the disagreement over this matter escalated into heated arguments, ultimately resulting in the FIR. He also claimed that attempts were being made to target the Sanatan community in the area.
On 31 December 2025, a delegation of local youths from Block Arnia, under the leadership of Bharat Singh Charak, State Vice President of Yuva Rajput Sabha, met with the SHO of Police Station Arnia. The delegation presented their concerns regarding the FIR and requested its quashing, citing lack of evidence regarding the alleged conversion. The SHO clarified that without documentary proof, no legal action regarding conversion claims could be taken, but any verifiable evidence presented would be addressed according to law.
The meeting concluded peacefully, with the group raising slogans of “Jai Shri Ram” before dispersing. Police confirmed that the situation remained under control and calm throughout the day.
Authorities have assured residents that the case is being investigated from all perspectives to ascertain the truth, prevent communal tension, and ensure public order. Law enforcement officials have urged the community to maintain peace and allow the legal process to proceed without interference.
