Doda, July 7: Fresh flash floods struck several parts of Thathri in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Tuesday, causing widespread damage to property, blocking the National Highway, and disrupting normal life in the region.
According to officials, the sudden surge of floodwaters damaged several residential and commercial structures in Thathri town. Preliminary estimates suggest that property worth several lakhs of rupees has been affected.
The flash floods also blocked the National Highway after debris and mud accumulated on the road, bringing traffic to a standstill and leaving commuters stranded. Authorities have launched clearance operations to remove the debris and restore vehicular movement as quickly as possible.
Officials said teams are on the ground assessing the extent of the damage, while restoration work is in progress to reconnect affected areas and bring normalcy back to the region.
The latest incident comes just a day after another spell of extreme weather disrupted road connectivity in Doda. On Monday, a flash flood accompanied by a mudslide blocked the road at Prem Nagar, highlighting the continuing impact of heavy rainfall across the district.
Authorities have urged residents and travellers to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall, and follow official weather advisories as more rain is expected in parts of the region.
