Srinagar, Aug 6: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Thursday reiterated that his party would continue its campaign for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special constitutional status, asserting that the developments of August 5, 2019, were unconstitutional.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Abdullah said the issue continued to receive support from across the country and referred to the protests held in Parliament a day earlier, adding that the agitation would go on.

When asked about the roadmap for restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, the former chief minister said the National Conference had a clear stand on the matter, emphasising that it was the party’s policy rather than his personal position.

Reacting to questions on Union Minister Giriraj Singh’s remarks against PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, Abdullah declined to comment, saying she was best placed to respond herself.

The remarks came a day after political activities across Jammu and Kashmir marked the anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370. The National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party organised protests in various districts, pressing for the restoration of the region’s special status.
