AUG 8: With cordon intensified and cutting-edge technology pressed into action, the anti-terror operation entered eighth day, on Friday, as security forces continue to battle the hiding terrorists in the forest area of Kulgam.
It is learnt that the senior Police and Army officers are keeping an eye on the operation 24×7 as on Thursday, J&K DGP Nalin Prabhat visited the operation site for assessment of the situation.
Northern Commander of Army Lt Gen Pratik Sharma also took stock of the security situation and counter-terrorism grid in South Kashmir, where he was also detailed about the operation underway in Kulgam.
Real-time drones with high-tech technology and helicopters hovering over the area to hunt down the ultras in the forest area of Kulgam. Para commandos flanked by the security forces in eliminating the hiding terrorists. Heavy reinforcements have been inducted in Kulgam.
As of now, two terrorists have been neutralized and seven security forces personnel have sustained injuries during the ongoing encounter in a forest area at Akhal in the South Kashmir.
Pertinent to mention, a gunfight raged between security forces and terrorists in Kulgam district on Friday. Following the specific intelligence inputs about the presence of ultras, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the forest area. The search operation turned into an encounter after the hiding terrorists opened fire at the forces, who retaliated firmly.
Notably, this serves as the longest anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir in the current year.
