Srinagar: Executive Member of the Jammu and Kashmir Sangarish Samiti, Nazir Ahmed Malik, on Saturday addressed a press conference highlighting the long-pending issues faced by daily wage workers, stating that their hopes have gradually turned into disappointment after years of waiting for relief.
Speaking to reporters, Malik said that workers have been struggling for many years and continue to face uncertainty regarding their livelihood. He emphasized that daily wagers deserve the same rights and benefits that are provided to other government employees, adding that repeated appeals and representations to the authorities have so far yielded no concrete results.
He urged the government to immediately implement the Minimum Wages Act, ensure the timely release of monthly salaries, regulate the services of daily wage workers, and provide insurance coverage to safeguard their families in case of emergencies.
Malik further warned that if the government fails to address their demands, workers will be left with no option but to intensify their agitation. He announced that daily wagers under the banner of the Jammu and Kashmir Sangarish Samiti would observe a pen-down strike from April 6 if their grievances remain unresolved.
