Kathua: A firing incident at the Sewa-II Power Project in the Basohli hills of Kathua district left four CISF personnel, including an Assistant Commandant, reportedly dead on Tuesday evening after a fellow personnel allegedly opened fire following an altercation.
According to reports, the incident occurred at a CISF camp deployed for security at the power project. Preliminary information suggests that an argument broke out among the personnel, following which a Head Constable allegedly opened fire on his colleagues.
The officer killed in the incident has been identified in reports as an Assistant Commandant, while three other CISF personnel were also reportedly among the casualties. Sources reported that the accused Head Constable had been handed over to the police.
Another local report identified the accused as Head Constable Awadhesh Singh and reported that the injured personnel included Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Laxman Singh and Constables Rafiq Ahmad and Sandeep Kumar. It also noted that official confirmation regarding the reported deaths was awaited.
Senior police and security officials rushed to the project site following the incident. Security arrangements in and around the area were also strengthened as authorities began investigating the circumstances that led to the firing.
The Sewa-II Power Station is located at Mashka in Basohli tehsil of Kathua district, according to project-related government tender records.
The motive behind the firing and the sequence of events leading to the incident are yet to be officially established. Police and security agencies are investigating the matter.
