Jammu: The Project Approval Board (PAB) of the PM SHRI – Schools for Rising India scheme has approved an outlay of ₹243 crore for Jammu and Kashmir for the financial year 2026–27.
The meeting, chaired by Union Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, Sanjay Kumar, was attended by Commissioner Secretary, School Education, Ram Nivas Sharma, along with the Project Director and senior officials of Samagra Shiksha, J&K.
During the meeting, the Board reviewed the financial and physical progress made under the scheme during the previous year. Officials informed that out of ₹200.11 crore available for 2025–26, an amount of ₹194.53 crore was utilized and released to executing agencies, including PWD (R&B), mainly for civil works and related activities.
The Board appreciated the notable academic improvement in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the 10 percent rise in Board Examination results at the secondary and higher secondary levels. It also commended the Union Territory’s overall financial and physical progress under the PM SHRI scheme.
The Ministry of Education assured continued support for effective implementation of the scheme in the coming years.
At present, PM SHRI is being implemented in 396 schools across Jammu and Kashmir, mostly at the high and higher secondary levels.
Officials also clarified that reports in some sections of the media regarding meagre expenditure under the scheme were false and misleading.
