Jammu, July 25: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir, of the Crime Branch has filed a chargesheet against an accused in an alleged overseas job fraud case in which a Kashmiri youth was reportedly lured to Cambodia with the promise of a ₹90,000 monthly job but was later forced into illegal online scam operations.
According to an official statement, the chargesheet has been filed in FIR No. 19/2026 under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Mohd Yaseen Rather, a resident of Kripalpora Payeen, Pattan, after completion of the investigation.
Police said the complainant was promised a job as a Computer Operator in Cambodia and allegedly paid lakhs of rupees to the accused besides spending money on visa processing and travel.
However, after reaching Cambodia, the victim allegedly did not receive the promised job and was instead forced to take part in online scamming activities.
The EOW said sufficient evidence was collected during the investigation, following which the chargesheet was presented before the competent court.
The Crime Branch has advised people to verify overseas job offers before making any payments and urged victims of similar frauds to report such cases to the EOW Kashmir for legal action.
