Jammu: Following incessant rainfall that triggered multiple landslides across the Rajouri, Poonch, and Reasi border districts, the Border Roads Organisation has cleared blocked roads, ensuring the movement of critical resources, essential services, army vehicles, and the local populace, a defence spokesperson said on Saturday.
He said the heavy downpour from July 19 to July 24 caused numerous landslides at several locations, blocking key roads, including Rajouri-Poonch National Highway, Rajouri-Thanamandi road, Rajouri-Budhal, Rajouri-Mahore-Gul road, which affected normal movement in the region.
The spokesperson said the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) immediately mobilised its personnel, heavy machinery and equipment to undertake round-the-clock road clearance operations despite adverse weather conditions and challenging terrain.
He said monsoon preparedness ensured quick deployment of resources at already identified critical locations, adding that various arteries in forward locations were also immediately restored to ensure timely movement of security forces.
A 200-foot Bailey Bridge has already been launched at the Baodra nallah, allowing smooth traffic movement and preventing the Mahore areas from being cut off from Rajouri and Budhal, he said.
The spokesperson said the unrelenting rains heavily damaged road infrastructure and equipment deployed by contractor teams working on the Rajouri-Thanamandi road, the National Highway site location in Poonch and other areas.
He said the BRO teams, working tirelessly under hazardous conditions, successfully removed debris, stabilised vulnerable stretches and restored traffic on the affected routes in the shortest possible time.
He said the BRO continues to play a pivotal role in ensuring all-weather connectivity, enhancing operational preparedness and providing critical support during natural disasters and emergencies.
He said while essential connectivity on all roads has been restored, the teams remain deployed to repair damaged infrastructure, ensure seamless traffic movement, and provide maximum relief to the populace under Project Sampark.
