Srinagar: Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Saturday accused the BJP of engineering defections and splits in opposition parties to increase its strength in the Parliament for the passage of the delimitation and women’s reservation bill. The party general secretary also accused the ruling party at the Centre of giving the corrupt a clean slate upon joining it.
“For the past month, we have been hearing that MPs and MLAs of the TMC are leaving the party. Now, it is the turn of the Shiv Sena (UBT), and tomorrow it will be the turn of the Samajwadi Party. In reality, they are not running away from their parties; they are satisfied with their parties.
“But this so-called ‘washing machine’ system, with agencies being used against them, is being used to break and bring them over,” Mir told reporters here. He said the BJP is trying to manage the numbers to pass the delimitation and the women’s reservation bill. “It will continue to break the parties till they achieve that”.
All the same, Mir said that all those who have left their parties will return once the political climate in the country changes “You will soon see that those MPs and MLAs who have left the TMC will return to their party. Let the political climate change. The same will happen with Shiv Sena as well,” he said.
On the NEET re-exam on Sunday, the Congress leader said that in the last 12 years, a question paper has leaked 75 times. “NEET and other examination papers were leaked. Recruitments took place through backdoor channels, and appointments made through corruption. This is a betrayal of the country’s youth,” he said.
The youth of the country will no longer tolerate it, Mir asserted. “You saw three days ago that Rahul Gandhi participated in a youth gathering in Kota. Thousands who felt helpless were there. He tried to raise their voice. These days, Rahul Gandhi engages in debates with youth on education policy. Until a concrete policy is made and transparency is ensured, all these exams remain a betrayal of the educated youth of the country,” he said.
On the India-UK trade deal, Mir said the government needs to tread cautiously and keep the interests of the people in mind. “The whole country believes the India-US trade deal was done under pressure. It will affect agriculture, especially in Jammu and Kashmir. Discussions on it are still on, but in the meantime, there is talk about a trade deal between India and the UK.
“There is a need to take precautions because foreign countries want to occupy Indian markets so that their produce comes here at cheaper rates,” he said. He said the prime minister and the commerce minister must protect the interests of the country. “Otherwise, if this trade deal is done like the US trade deal, then our farmers and agriculture will suffer losses,” the leader said.
