JAMMU, July 13: Speaking to The News Now, Jammu and Kashmir BJP President Sat Sharma strongly criticised Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over his allegations that the BJP attempted to lure National Conference legislators, saying such serious claims must be backed by credible evidence.
Sharma said a person holding the office of Chief Minister should make allegations responsibly. He challenged Omar Abdullah to reveal the names of those allegedly involved and produce witnesses to support his claims. “If he cannot provide proof, he should apologise. If he is unwilling to apologise, he should be prepared to face legal action,” Sharma said.
Referring to the National Conference’s proposed protest in New Delhi seeking the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, Sharma questioned the need for the demonstration. He said both the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister had already stated that statehood would be restored at an appropriate time and alleged that the planned protest was intended to create political drama.
Sharma also accused the National Conference government of failing to fulfil the promises it made before the Assembly elections. He said the people had elected the government with expectations of development and good governance, but alleged that those expectations had not been met.
He further questioned the Chief Minister’s repeated visits to New Delhi, saying the focus should instead be on addressing the concerns of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Referring to the upcoming local bodies elections, Sharma said the people would deliver their verdict through the democratic process.
