SRINAGAR: After a two-week disruption in its billing services, the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has launched a major digital overhaul. It is introducing the “Bill Sahuliyat Plus” mobile application, which aims to transform how electricity consumers in the Kashmir region pay their bills and access services.
The new app, available on Android and iOS platforms, marks the official shift towards a fully digital consumer interface, replacing older, fragmented systems. Designed to focus on user convenience, the app promises to simplify billing, enhance transparency, and offer round-the-clock accessibility to key services for more than 12 lakh electricity consumers in the Valley.
Speaking to The News Now, a senior official at KPDCL said, “One of the app’s standout features is its multi-account management system, allowing users to add and manage multiple Consumer IDs under one login. This is particularly helpful for households or businesses managing multiple power connections. The app also integrates real-time smart meter data, providing users instant visibility into their energy consumption, including prepaid meters and solar rooftop exports”.
KPDCL officials noted that the app is part of a larger digital reform—the rollout of a Unified Billing System (UBS) hosted on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. This modern system aims to centralise data, improve billing accuracy, and introduce advanced analytics for metering and collections.
Early user feedback appears positive. Fayaz Ahmad, a resident of Srinagar, said, “Earlier, I had issues paying bills through iOS devices, but this new app has solved that. It’s very user-friendly and secure.” Nusrat Jan from Baramulla echoed the sentiment, especially appreciating the chatbot feature: “It feels like someone is guiding me step-by-step. It saves time and removes confusion.”
KPDCL has also released a short tutorial video for users, which is available on its official Facebook page. The department is actively engaging on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle for the latest updates and customer interactions. As Kashmir moves further into the digital age, the “Bill Sahuliyat Plus” app may well become the blueprint for consumer-focused utility management — efficient, transparent, and accessible.
