AUG 5: Terming abrogation as “Black Day”, Congress and PDP leaders staged a vigorous protest on the sixth anniversary of nullification of Article 370 in Srinagar on Tuesday.
Notably, the senior leaders of both outfits (Congress and PDP) were placed under house arrest and protested in the house premises against the Abrogation of Article 370.
On the occasion, Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra said that we are observing August 5 as ‘Black Day’ as Jammu and Kashmir was not only bifurcated but also degraded.
“This is a Mourning Day for not only Jammu and Kashmir but rest of India,” Karra said, adding, “Democracy is under threat and any further devastation can affect not only India but whole world.”
Former Chief Minister and People’s Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti leading the other sect of leaders in other part of Srinagar hurled barbs at the Government for placing them under house arrest.
“We have been placed under house arrest speaks quite loud about prevailing circumstances in Jammu and Kashmir,” Mehbooba said. She said that on August 5, Constitution was downgraded and the ruling party (BJP) unleashed the oppression and repealed Article 370.
Mehbooba added that people of the country did not realized once BJP played with Constitution in J&K, it will touch the nerves of other states as well, which, currently can be witnessed through exercise of Election Commission wherein several voters are disenfranchised.
“J&K has been reduced to laboratory, we’ve been placed under house arrest and no body is here to provide a helping hand to us,” PDP stalwart said on house arrest.
