Srinagar: Dr. Umer Ahmed Ilyasi, head of the All India Imam Organization, on Friday visited the central office of the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board, where he addressed a press conference. The interaction was also attended by Waqf Board Chairperson Dr. Syed Darakhshan Andrabi.
During the briefing, Dr. Ilyasi stated that following the unfortunate incident in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir has once again demonstrated a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere. He expressed satisfaction over the warmth and hospitality shown by local residents toward tourists and visitors.
The Chief Imam further remarked that since 2019, the region has witnessed a new phase of peace and progress, which he attributed to the leadership and vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He added that the initiatives undertaken by the Waqf Board under Dr. Andrabi reflect the positive transformation taking place in Jammu and Kashmir and align with the broader development agenda for the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Andrabi informed Dr. Ilyasi that the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board has become the first in the country to regularize monthly honorariums for Imams and Khateebs into structured salaries, while also significantly enhancing their remuneration. She emphasized that religious leaders play a crucial role not only in leading prayers but also in promoting values of harmony, compassion, and social responsibility within communities.
Dr. Ilyasi appreciated the reform-oriented measures introduced by Dr. Andrabi, describing them as a model of institutional progress and a notable success story for the Waqf Board.
Several prominent Imams and Khateebs associated with the Board were present at the event, along with Executive Magistrate of the Board, Ishtiyaq Mohiuddin.
