Jammu: In a major crackdown on gold smuggling, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs at IGI Airport, New Delhi, seized over 10 kg of gold worth approximately ₹7.8 crore from two Kashmiri passengers on February 5, 2025.
As per reports, the two individuals, aged 45 and 43, arrived from Milan on Flight AI-138 and were intercepted at the Green Channel based on specific intelligence.
While their baggage scans showed no anomalies, a personal search triggered by DFMD alerts led to the discovery of specially designed waist belts concealed with gold coins wrapped in plastic envelopes.
A total of 10.092 kg of gold was recovered, and the passengers were detained under the Customs Act, 1962, for further investigation.
