Srinagar, September 30: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Wednesday concluded its seven-day Autumn Session, with Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather adjourning the House sine die.
Before the House was adjourned, Rather thanked lawmakers, Assembly employees, security personnel and officials from various departments for their role in conducting the session.
The Speaker said the Chair’s responsibility was to ensure that elected representatives received an opportunity to raise issues concerning their constituencies and the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said efforts were made to accommodate members from across political parties despite the limited time available.
Referring to the short duration of the session, Rather said longer sittings would give legislators more time to participate in debates and raise matters concerning their constituencies. He also urged members to understand the challenges involved in managing proceedings when the available sitting time is limited.
The session witnessed several heated exchanges and disruptions. Rather said disagreements were part of legislative proceedings but stressed the need for members to present their concerns in a constructive manner.
He also acknowledged the work of the Council of Ministers and appreciated Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his regular participation in the proceedings. Rather said the Chief Minister had intended to attend the final sitting but was unable to do so because of official engagements.
The Speaker also highlighted the contribution of the media, calling journalists an important link between the legislature and the public. He said the press helps bring public concerns to the forefront and keeps people informed about Assembly proceedings.
Appreciating the Assembly staff, Rather said they had handled the session despite having limited manpower. He also said issues concerning the staff, including promotions and other service matters, were being looked into.
The Autumn Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was held in Srinagar from September 21 to September 30.
With the Speaker’s announcement, the House was formally adjourned sine die, marking the conclusion of the 2026 Autumn Session.
