Srinagar, Sept 25: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said that demanding the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir is not an anti-national act.
Speaking to reporters after the Assembly witnessed a disruption over the statehood resolution, Omar asked the BJP to point out even one anti-national word in the resolution.
He said, “Show me a single anti-national word used in the resolution.”
Omar clarified that the resolution seeking restoration of statehood is separate from the autonomy resolution passed by the House in 2000.
He said that if the BJP wants to change the resolutions already passed, it should bring its own resolution.
The Chief Minister accused the BJP of creating a ruckus in the Assembly and said the party did not want people to see the reality.
He said, “The Leader of Opposition and the BJP are only opposed to statehood.”
Omar added that the people of Jammu and Kashmir had seen that the 29 BJP MLAs were against the restoration of statehood.
He said the resolution was only aimed at asking the Centre to restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and that the BJP should have allowed a discussion on it.
“BJP got exposed today. It would have been better to allow discussion over it,” he said.
On the Congress party’s position, Omar said there was nothing unconstitutional in the resolution. He added that it was separate from the earlier resolutions and there was nothing wrong with it.
